STAFF REPORT

Jane Simpson, a bus driver employed by Flatonia ISD, was recently awarded a “Call to Excellence” T-shirt for bringing a hearing-impared student to the San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) pre-kindergarten program each day. The shirt was presented by Hernandez Elementary School principal Rosemary Garcia.

The T-shirt was given because of the distance Simpson drives and because she waits for the child to get out of school after three hours of instruction.

“Jane is free to do as she wishes, but every day this year, she has stayed at Pre-K and provided countless hours of volunteer time to help our teachers and students,” Garcia said. “We appreciate all the help she has given us, and we tease her often about wearing her Flatonia colors on Fridays. When we gave her the Call to Excellence T-shirt, she proudly wore it. We look forward to our continued relationship with our out-of-district friend.”

“A Call to Excellence” is a grassroots, parent-led group that improves and supports SMCISD schools. The group donated the T-shirts to local public schools to honor exemplary service providers.

Among the citizens honored so far are: Frank Kane of Crockett Elementary School, Steven DeLeon of Travis Elementary School, and Barbara Majors of Hernandez Elementary School.
