Kiwanis to display flags on Independence Day

STAFF REPORT

The San Marcos Kiwanis Club will place American Flags on the Courthouse Square for the Independence Day holiday.

For $30 per flag, Kiwanis members will place a flag in front of businesses that request them on July 4. The proceeds form the flags go towards the Children’s Summer Reading Program at the San Marcos Public Library.

In 2008, proceeds form the flags provided for the circulation of 32,272 books, helped 2,849 children earn their reading certificates and helped the total attendence to the Summer Reading Program reach 7,544.

Club members place the flags and pick them up. Additionally, the club stores, cleans and repair/replaces the flags. Kiwanis also provides the flags on Memorial Day, Flag Day, September 11, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day.

For more information, or to request a flag, contact Randy or Pam Cook at (512) 353-3383.
