The San Marcos Education Foundation (SMEF) Board of Directors recently selected former San Marcos City Councilman Daniel Guerrero as its new executive director.
SMEF is a nonprofit, tax exempt corporation dedicated to supporting excellence in education. It supports San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) with student and teacher recognition activities, innovative teaching grants and scholarships.
Guerrero will be responsible for fundraising development, strategic planning and generating public awareness for SMEF’s mission and initiatives. He was selected from a pool of more than 35 applicants and will officially begin on July . His office will be in the SMCISD Lamar Annex, located at 500 West Hutchison Street in San Marcos.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help cultivate relationships with leaders who are prepared to invest in the success of our students and teachers,” said Guerrero. “While it will be my responsibility to help raise money to enrich teaching and inspire learning, it is my personal goal to also raise the aspirations and dreams of our current and future leaders.”
In addition to his city council experience, Guerrero is a graduate of San Marcos High School and Texas State, where he earned a degree in public relations. He will graduate from St. Edward’s University in December with a master’s degree in organizational leadership and ethics.
“We are so pleased to have Daniel Guerrero as our new Executive Director,” said SMEF Board President Margaret Lindsey. “He will be working full time on behalf of the San Marcos Education Foundation, bringing with him great enthusiasm and many new ideas. Our board is looking forward to seeing him take the foundation to the next level.”Email | Print
