Mark De Leon has been hired by the San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) School Board as Goodnight Middle School’s new assistant principal.
“I have spent the majority of my career working with young people and enjoy the opportunities they bring,” De Leon said. “I have experience in administration, teacher mentoring, classroom management, youth leadership, drug prevention and school safety, and I am honored to have this opportunity to work with Goodnight Middle School.”
De Leon most recently worked as an assistant principal at Spring Branch Middle School in Comal ISD. Before that, he served as a criminal justice teacher at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio for four years. He also worked as the Safe and Drug Free School Coordinator for Hays CISD.
Other positions De Leon has occupied include grant specialist at Texas State, where he managed a youth advisory board for the Texas Department of Health’s Office of Tobacco Prevention and Control. While there, he developed and managed statewide youth leadership conferences and camps, while developing curriculum.
“The committee believes that they have made the best choice in selecting Mark De Leon as the new assistant principal, and we welcome him to his new educational home,” said Goodnight Principal Steve Dow.
Dow said 64 applicants for the position were vetted by a campus-based committee of administrators, teachers and parents. The committee interviewed eight of those applicants.
De Leon graduated form high school in Bay City, TX. He earned a degree in criminal justice from Wayland Baptist University and went on to earn his master’s degree in management – vocational technical education from Texas State, with a minor in educational administration.
The SMCISD Board approved De Leon’s hiring on June 15, and he begins on July 1.Email | Print
