Hays CISD hires HHS principal

The Hays CISD has hired David Pierce as the new principal at Hays High School.

Pierce served as principal at Mount Vernon High School in East Texas since 2005. For a year before then, he was the assistant principal there. From 2000-2004, Pierce was assistant principal at Crockett High School in Austin.

Pierce earned his bachelor’s at the University of Texas and his master’s at Texas State.

He replaces Shirley Reich, who was re-assigned earlier this spring.

The school district announced a number of other personnel changes, including the movement of Hemphill Elementary School Principal Mike Hanson to Hays High School, where he will be assistant principal.

Hays CISD also has hired Carol McKenzie as Director of Professional Development. McKenzie is a principal mentor and coach for schools through the U.S. Department of Education. She has worked for the Texas Education Agency’s State Board of Educator Certification and was the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology at Lake Travis ISD.

The school district announced the following retirements: Ginger Dicker, Spanish teacher at Barton Middle School; Pam McAnally, band director of Dahlstrom Middle School; Glennis Taylor, special education teacher at Hays High School; and Linda Garcia, Spanish teacher at Academy High School.
