Texas State senior shot putter Kemuel Morales heaved a new school record Wednesday as he advanced to the finals in the NCAA track and field championships at the University of Arkansas.
The other Texas State participant, women’s high jumper Katherine Evans, made no jumps in her three attempts Wednesday and, thus, did not advance to the finals.
Morales put the shot 18.46 meters (60 feet, 6.75 inches) in his second attempt of the preliminaries, becoming just the second Bobcat to ever reach 60 feet. In so doing, Morales made the eighth best throw in the preliminaries.
Morales topped his previous season best of 18.23 meters (59 feet, 9.75 inches), which took third in the NCAA regional at the University of Oklahoma.
The finals for the national shot put championship were to take place Thursday at 6 p.m.Email | Print
