Morales advances to shot put finals in NCAA tourney


FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Texas State senior shot putter Kemuel Morales advances to the finals of the men’s shot put at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

The finals of the men’s shot put will take place 6 p.m. Thursday.

Morales recorded a new school record when he heaved a throw of 18.46 meters (60-6.75) on his second throw to advance to tomorrow’s finals. He is just the second Bobcat in school history to throw over 60 feet. He will enter the finals with the eighth best mark from the qualifying round.

Morales qualified for the championships after hauling a season-best throw of 18.23 meters (59-09.75); earning him a bronze medal in the event.
