SMCISD honors retirees

STAFF REPORT

The following thirteen members of San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) were recently honored by the SMCISD School Board upon their retirement. In total, the retirees had collectively contributed 359 years of service to the district.

“SMCISD is grateful to all these retiring employees for their many years of dedication and service to our students,” said Dr. Lolly Guerra, SMCISD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources,

  • Cynthia Calderon taught for 11 years at San Marcos High School (SMHS) in the Career and Technical Education Department.
  • Lupe Castillo was a custodian for 26 years at Miller Junior High.
  • David Childress was a Construction Trades teacher at Miller for 29 years.
  • Martha “Susie” Forrest taught at SMHS for 38 years as a Special Education co-teacher in the science department.
  • Oskar Garcia was a school counselor for 40 years. Most recently he worked at at Hernandez Intermediate School.
  • Maurice “Mo” Jones was a school bus driver for 11 years, often on the Bonham PreK route.
  • George Mejia worked for the District for nine years. He worked for the last six as a custodian at Goodnight Junior High School where he was recently chosen as the Staff Member of the Month.
  • Nancy Maloney worked for 26 years at Bonham PreK School.
  • Janie Ponce was a SMCISD employee for more than 30 years. She worked at the Special Education Office, SMHS and, most recently, in Human Resources.
  • Anita Ramirez was a food service worker at SMHS for 17 years.
  • Pam Roberts served SMCISD for 22 years. She spent the last few years as a classroom teacher at Hernandez.
  • Kathi Sellars worked as a teacher at Hernandez for 29 years.
  • Betty Williams worked as a teacher at Hernandez for 22 years.
