The Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BS/EACD) will hold two town hall meetings on June 2 and 8 to gather input from district permittees, individual groundwater users and the public on prospective changes to district rules on management zones and drought management, especially during extreme drought conditions.
These will be information-exchange meetings only, intended to provide input for proposed future rulemaking.
“Currently, we are in one of the worst droughts experienced in the history of the district,” BS/EACD General Manager Kirk Holland said. “Aquifer water levels and spring flows may drop further as we enter the driest time of the year, when the aquifer typically receives little replenishment and has its highest water use.”
Continued Holland, “We believe that the rule changes we will discuss at the public meetings are essential to being prepared for the dry times ahead. And we want to hear from our stakeholders about those needs.”
The June 2 meting will be held at Sunset Valley City Hall, located at 3205 Jones Road. The June 8 meeting will be at Buda City Hall, located at 121 Main Street. Both meetings are open to the public. The time for both meetings will be 7:30-8:30 p.m.
