San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) elementary school coaches were recently recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for their fundraising efforts. The schools have raised $306,000 in the past 20 years for heart research.
“I really enjoyed working with the San Marcos school district over the last two years,” said AHA Youth Market Director Katie Lombardi. “This school year of 2008-2009, the elementary schools teams led by Dawn Breihan, Steven DeLeon, Carla Roberts and Rose Berglund raised more than $22,000 for the American Heart Association.”
All SMCISD elementary schools have participated in the Jump Rope for Heart program since 1991 In total, Travis Elementary School raised $60,000, Bowie Elementary School raised $64,000, Crockett Elementary School raised $78,000 and DeZavala Elementary School raised $104,000.
The Jump Rope for Heart program focuses on educating students and the community on living healthier lives. The funds go towards research into heart disease and stroke.
