Ten bars issued permits for 2 a.m. closing times

SUBMITTED REPORT

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) will issue 10 permits Friday, May 22, authorizing San Marcos bars and restaurants to stay opened until 2 a.m.

The permits will be issued to Cheatham Street Warehouse, Green Parrot, Harper’s Hall, J’s Bistro, Nephews, Rockie La Rue’s, Sean Patrick’s, Showdown, The Tap Room and The Tavern.

Starting Friday these establishments will be able to stay open until 2 a.m. nightly. When each business actually begins the later hours will be up to them.

The San Marcos City Council gave final approval to an ordinance May 11 extending closing hours for establishments selling beer and mixed beverages until 2 a.m.

An Extended Hours Task Force studied implementation of the later hours for several months following passage of a non-binding referendum last November in which 71% of voters approved the 2 a.m. closing measure.

The late closing hours will be reviewed after six months, 12 months and two years to determine the effectiveness of the ordinance and the impact it may have on the community.

  1. Hurray! I probably will never take advantage of it but I celebrate San Marcos’ entry into the 21st Century. I didn’t see the bar at the Embassy Suites listed but they can’t be far behind.
