The Lions Club Tube Rental will open in temporary quarters for the summer on May 16 after a fire consumed its old building on April 27.

The club, with the help of volunteers and the City of San Marcos, met its goal of opening in mid-May. The Lions Club contributes more than $120,000 to the San Marcos community.

The Lions Club lost $15,000 worth of inner tubes, about 850 tubes, in the April 27 blaze. The Lions declared a total loss on their inventory, which they self-insured. In a special meeting on the night of the fire, the Lions decided to orderd $15,000 worth of inner tubes to they could continue their rental operation, which has serviced floaters on the San Marcos River since the mid-1970s.
