Mathworks camp gets $25K gift

STAFF REPORT

The Texas State Mathworks program recently received a $25,000 gift from the Siemens Foundation in support of its Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC).

The gift will support ten “Siemens Fellowships” for students to attend the HSMC,  Mathworks’ flagship program with 75 students and counselors participating. The camp is an intensive mathematics program for gifted students.

The camp has been recognized by the American Math Society Epsilon Fund as one of the top math programs in the country, receiving eight grants from the fund.

Texas Mathworks is a center for mathematics education that develops model programs and self-sustaining learning communities to Texas K-12 students from all backgrounds in doing high level math. Governor Rick Perry selected the program as only one of five to receive the 2001 Texas Higher Education Star Award for Closing the Gaps. Texas Mathworks can be found on the web, or by calling (512) 245-3439.

The Siemens Foundation, established in 1998, provides nearly $7 million in college scholarships and awards every year. For more information on the foundation, click here.
