San Marcos Police released the names and photos of two suspects in a carjacking that occurred Monday at Prime Outlet Mall.
Trinidad Olivares, Jr., 19, of Buda, and Jackelyn Barajas, 24, of San Marcos, are jailed at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center.
Police arrested and charged Olivares and Barajas in connection with a carjacking that occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday and led to a high-speed chase.
Police said Olivares approached a 37-year-old San Antonio woman and her three-year-old son near her vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the keys to her 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Olivares then fled in the vehicle.
The victim then called 911. The victim and her son were uninjured.
Police officers spotted the vehicle in the vicinity of Interstate-35 and SH 80 occupied by the two suspects. The suspects fled at a high rate of speed, driving north on SH 21 and passing numerous vehicles and two school buses.
The high speed chase ended when San Marcos police used the Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to forcefully stop the vehicle in the safest manner possible on SH 21 near High Road in Hays County. The maneuver successfully ended the chase without further risk to innocent citizens traveling on the roadway.
Bond was set for Olivares at $700,000 total – $300,000 each for each of two aggravated robbery counts and $100,000 for evading arrest.
Bond for Barajas was set at $20,000 for her theft charge. No bond was set for her parole violation warrant.
