San Marcos police have arrested a 20-year-old Buda man and a 24-year-old San Marcos woman, charging them in a carjacking incident that occurred around 3:15 p.m. Monday at Prime Outlet Mall in San Marcos.
Police did not release the names of the suspects pending magistration. They are currently jailed at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center.
The male suspect approached a 37-year-old San Antonio woman and her three-year-old son near her vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the keys to her 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspect fled in the vehicle.
The victim then called 911. The victim and her son were uninjured.
Police officers spotted the vehicle in the vicinity of Interstate-35 and SH 80 occupied by two subjects. The suspects fled at a high rate of speed, driving north on SH 21 and passing numerous vehicles and two school buses.
The high speed chase ended when San Marcos police used the Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to forcefully stop the vehicle in the safest manner possible on SH 21 near High Road in Hays County. The maneuver successfully ended the chase without further risk to innocent citizens traveling on the roadway.
The 20-year-old Buda male is Hispanic and currently on parole. He is charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery (first degree felony) and one count of Evading Arrest – in Vehicle (third degree felony)
The 24-year-old San Marcos female is Hispanic and also currently on parole. She is charged with Theft under $500 for an unrelated shoplifting at the Outlet Malls. She also has outstanding warrants.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed as more details are learned during the investigation.
