Participants register for HealthCheck in CTMC’s main lobby.
Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) served 1,428 Hays County residents as part of its 23rd Annual HealthCheck fair on April 23.
“HealthCheck meets a significant need every year,” said CTMC President and CEO Gary Jepson. “Offering the community a significant discount on health screenings and care is just one of the ways we seek to extend the healing ministry of Christ.”
CTMC said the event drew a near-record crowd. Participants were able to pay $30 for what usually would be $400 worth of blood analysis, including testing glucose, total cholesterol, HDL/LDL, white blood cell count, triglycerides and hemoglobin.
Afterward, participants could meet with health care professionals to discuss their needs, as well as register for a prostate specific antigen blood test, a thyroid stimulant hormone blood test, a carotid artery screening and tetanus shots.
CTMC’s main facility welcomed 1,282 of the participants, with others tested in off-site locations. The event also featured online registration, more on-site business participation and off-site parking.
“I am grateful that our employees, as well as the community, have an opportunity to take advantage of such important and affordable health care each year,” said Melanie Teague, Human Resource Director at McCoy’s Building Supply.
Continued Teague, “We had nothing but good feedback from our employees, and thank CTMC for doing this for us.”
CTMC officials are gathering input from participants and providers for next year’s HealthCheck, which will face some tweaks due to this year’s overwhelming response.
