Texas State softball season ends with sweep

Having already clinched the Southland Conference regular season softball championship, Texas State swept Sam Houston State in a double header on the road on May 2 before the Sunday game between those same two teams was cancelled because of poor weather.

The Bobcats won the Saturday opener, 4-0, before winning the nightcap, 12-3. Jenna Emery finished the day four-for-six with two homers and five RBI. Alex Newton went five-for-eight with three doubles and three runs scored.

Texas State improved its record to 36-16 overall and 23-6 in the Southland Conference to complete the regular season. Sam Houston fell to 26-24 and 15-14.

Freshman Chandler Hall pitched seven innings of one-hit, shutout ball in the opener, striking out five and walking on one as she improved her record to 21-9. Katie Garnett gave up three runs in her five-inning stint in the second game, improving her record to 15-5.

The Bobcats go to the Southland Conference Tournament as the top seed this weekend in Lake Charles, LA. The tournament runs from Thursday through Sunday.
