The Texas State men’s golf team moved up two spots in the final round and finished in fifth place at the Southland Conference at the 2009 Southland Conference Championships last week at The Bulb at Comanche Trace Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats finished the third round with a team score of 298 in the final round and completed the tournament with a three-round total of 894 to finish one shot ahead of Stephen F. Austin (SFA) and three shots ahead of Sam Houston State.
Senior Corey Roberson led Texas State with an 11th-place finish with a three-round total of 220 after finishing the final round at one-over-par. Jeff Gerlich tied for 20th place with a three-day total of 223 after he fired a one-over-par 73 in the final round. Philip Krebsbach finished the tournament with a 12-over-par 228 after he shot three over in the final round. Carson Gibson finished one shot back at 229 after shooting five-over-par in each of the last two rounds.
Lamar won the team championship for the fourth straight year and its seventh year in the last nine after finishing the tournament with a three-round total score of five-under-par 859. The Cardinals finished the tournament 10 strokes ahead of Texas-Arlington (UTA) and 12 strokes better than Southeastern Louisiana.
Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Cedric Scotto won a three-way playoff over Lamar’s Justin Harding and UTA’s Zach Fischer. Scotto, Harding and Fischer finished regulation with a four-under-par three-day total of 212 on the par 72, 7,276-yard course.
After the first playoff hole Scotto and Harding remained tied and teed off on the 10th fairway. Scotto chipped on within five feet and sank a birdie putt to win the individual championship by one stroke.
