San Marcos LWV to hold annual meeting

The San Marcos Area League of Women Voters (LWV) will hold its annual meeting and dinner at the Price Seniors Center on May 7 at 5:30 p.m. Current and prospective members are invited.

A social will precede the event at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m., then the annual meeting at 6:45 p.m.. The evening’s agenda includes election of board members and officers for the new membership year. Tickets for the event are $15 at the door, but reservations must be made by May 4.

This has been a busy year for the LWV, which held a candidates meet-and-greet, a debate for the fall 2008 general election, an annual wine tasting fundraiser and the recent San Marcos CISD candidate debate (which can be viewed on Newstreamz.com). The LVS also prepared of two voters guides, and sent representatives to the League’s statewide conference and lobby day in Austin.

Additionally, The Texas LWV will hold its convention in San Marcos from April 23-25, 2010, at the San Marcos Conference Center.

“We are living in an interesting time, and during this time it is even more important to be a good steward of non-partisan information,” said San Marcos LWV President Carole Belver. “It’s not about who is in office, but rather the actions that are taken. Getting involved with the League of Women Voters is one small step toward making a difference.”

A non-partisan organization, the LWV is open to men and women, and its guiding principles focus on belief in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States.

The local LWV annual meeting is also the time for members to pay their $40 annual dues for the 2009-2010 membership year. Members and prospective members who are unable to attend can send their dues to the San Marcos LWV, PO Box 1034, San Marcos, TX 78666-1034.
