Kyle Kubitza hittwo two-run home runs and Kane Holbrooks earned his ninth win of the season as the Texas State baseball team won its tenth game in a row Friday night, a 9-4 victory over McNeese State Friday night at Bobcat Field.
Texas State improves to 16-5 in league action, improving its lead in the Southland Conference to 2 1/2 games because Southeastern Louisiana took a 5-3 victory over Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin knocked off Texas-Arlington.
The Bobcats are 29-10 overall.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the third inning to take command of game. Tyler Sibley hit his seventh home run of the season with a two-out solo shot and Spenser Dennis notched an RBI single with a base hit through the left side. Ben Theriot later hit a two-run double to left center.
Holbrooks allowed just two hits in the first four innings before McNeese scored a run in the fifth. But Texas State scored four in the bottom of the fifth, keyed by Kubitza’s two-run homer. Kubitza added another two-run bomb in the seventh, giving Texas State a 9-2 lead.
Ben Theriot went three-for-three for Texas State.
The Bobcats will play another one again Saturday against McNeese State with Zach Tritz on the mound against McNeese’s Tyler Davis. First pitch at Bobcat Field is at 2 p.m.Email | Print
