Texas State will hold its 10th Annual “La Feria del Mariachi Concert” on April 25, from 7-9:30 p.m.
This year’s concert, held in Strahan Coliseum, will be hosted by master of ceremonies Alberto Alegre, and features the Mariachi Los Arrieors del Valle, Texas State’s own mariachi ensembles, Nueva Generación and Mariachi Infantil, as well as the winners from a mariachi competition held earlier in the day.
“La Voz De Oro,” a lifetime achievement award, will be presented to Pedro Fernandez for his achievements and contributions to mariachi music in the U.S. and Mexico. He will also present the trophies for the mariachi competition, which is also named in his honor.
More than 150 middle school, high school and college student participants from across Texas will compete in the contest and participate in seminars focusing on individual aspects of the mariachi musical art form.
Texas State students can purchase tickets at the door for $5 with a student ID on the day of the event. Tickets for the general public are $15 for preferred seating, $10 for regular seating and $5 for children aged 13 or under. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or through the main office of Texas State’s School of Music.
