The Reverend Jamie Washington, founder of the Washington Consulting Group, will give two presentations during the biennial meeting of Texas State’s Allies Program on April 21.
The meeting, held in the LBJ Student Center (LBJSC), will focus on addressing issues of sexual orientation and its relationship with religion and race.
Washington will address faculty and staff first, and the presentation for students will be held in the LBJSC Teaching Theater from 7-8:30 p.m. Both speeches, called “One More River to Cross: The Intersections of Race, Religion and Sexual Orientation,” will address challenges and issues facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered or questioning community, who are also ethnic minorities.
The Washington Consulting Group is a multicultural organizational development firm, based in Baltimore, MD. Washington has served as an educator and administrator in higher education for more than 35 years.
The event is co-sponsored by the Office of Disability Services and the Department of Housing and Residential Life. It has also received support from Texas State’s Counseling Center, the Alcohol and Drug resource Center, the Diversity Team, The Office of Equity and Access, Alliance and Multicultural Student Affairs.
