STAFF REPORT

The dedication ceremony for Goodnight Middle School too place the night of April 16. Many were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

Built on the former site of San Marcos High School (SMHS), Goodnight was named for Owen L. Goodnight, who was the winningest coach on SMHS history.

“My father’s spirit walks these halls and this site … this is where he taught and coached for 16 years,” said Debbie Hansen, daughter of the school’s namesake.

Goodnight’s teacher of the year, Nancy Jaster, welcomed the crowd and handed the microphone to the evenings emcee, National Junior Honor Society Representative Hamsini Siriaman. San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) Superintendent Patty Shafer also spoke.

The SMCISD Choir, the Goodnight Rattler Band and the Dancing Stars Dance Taem performed for the crowd, and tours of the newly renovated facility followed the event.
