Texas State scored five runs in the first inning Saturday at Bobcat Field and cruised to a 6-1 win against Texas-San Antonio (UTSA).
The Bobcats won two of three from UTSA and maintained first place in the Southland Conference at 16-5 in the league and 28-13 overall. UTSA fell to 14-10 in the Southland Conference and 21-20 overall.
Alex Newton started the game right for the Bobcats, leading off with a home run, her first of the season. Later in the inning, Taylor Hall scored after walking when UTSA made two errors on the same play. got the Bobcats started off on a high note when the lead-off batter connected with the ball on the first pitch of the game and knocked the ball to deep left field for the shortstops first home run of the season.
Two batters later, Taylor Hall walked to get to first base. Jenna Emery singled and advanced to third on an error. Still later in the inning, Ali McCormack hit a three-run homer to give Texas State a 5-0 advantage.
Ryan Kos homered in the fourth inning, her fourth of the season, giving the Bobcats a 6-0 lead.
Chandler Hall pitched six innings, striking out nine and giving up only four hits as she improved her record this season to 18-7.
