Texas State’s softball team split a double header at home against Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) Friday night, keeping its Southland Conference lead intact.
UTSA won the opener, 3-2, then Texas State won the nightcap, 4-1.
The Bobcats now are 27-13 overall and 15-5 in the SLC. UTSA fell to 21-19 and 14-9. Nicholls State and McNeese State are tied for second place in the league. Nicholls is 27-15 and 13-7, while McNeese is 21-23 and 13-7.
UTSA won the opener with the winning run in the ninth inning as Caitlin Ivy singled to right field and knocked in Rudi Cantu.
But the Bobcats rather easily took the second game. Ali McCormack started it off by tripling to right center, driving in two runs for a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Those were all the runs Texas State would need.
Taylor Hall and Chandler Hall each doubled in the fourth inning to drive in runs, giving the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.
The two teams will complete their series Saturday at Bobcat Field (noon).Email | Print
