San Marcos High School (SMHS) is preparing for graduation day with two fundraisers for Project Graduation, an alternative drink and drug free graduation celebration.
The first one, “9 for ’09,” has graduating seniors collecting $9 from nine different people.
“By asking for small amounts from more people, we hope to still collect money,” said Lisa Gendusa, Chairperson/Treasurer for Project Graduation. “And, people don’t feel so pressured to make a larger donation they can’t afford. We are sensitive to the issues presented by the tight economy.”
Donors can make direct donations, or the student can perform a small task for the money. The fundraiser will last until May 1.
The next event will be the second annual “Carino’s Dining-Out Event,” on April 14. Project Graduation will get 15 percent of all sales at Carino’s that day. However, diners must present a special flyer to the waitperson or cashier.
Donations are valid for lunch, dinner, eating in or takeout. Carino’s is located at 1207 Interstate 35 South. Flyers are available at the San Marcos CISD website. Go to the calendar of events for April 14.
All of this leads to the SMHS graduation ceremony on June 6, at Strahan Coliseum. Afterward, Project Graduation will hold a celebratory event in the SMHS cafeteria and foyer.
