Young women invited to 'Something for the Sistas'


The Phi Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will hold the “Something for the Sistas” event, at the Boys & Girls Club on May 2.

The event is targeted to young women from 12-18 years old. Its purpose is to educate and foster fellowship. Organizers want to raise awareness in key target areas that make it relevant to the daily lives of young women.

The agenda features the following presentations:

The Total Package: Dressing for success.
Making Sense of Money: Economic Empowerment/Money Management.
Putting Your Best Face Forward: Makeup and hair session.
Loved to Death: Domestic violence among youth.

Michael Lockwood, author of “Women Have All The Power, Too Bad They Don’t Know It,” will deliver the keynote address.

The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, at it includes breakfast, four workshops, lunch and a signed copy of Lockwood’s book.
