The National Weather Service (NWS) today issued a Red Flag Warning for Hays County, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A Red Flag Warning indicates wind and weather conditions could promote fires that would be difficult to control across the area. It is separate from any local burn ban.
According to the NWS, high winds from the northwest, coupled with falling humidity due to a cold front scheduled to pass through the area today, will result in critical fire conditions across south central Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
The NWS also issued a Wind Advisory, which will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
NWS forecasters say that the Hays County area could see 29-39 mile-per-hour winds today. They advise residents to secure trash cans, lawn furniture or other loose or lightweight household objects, and to exercise extra caution while driving.Email | Print
