Sheriffs office to hold horse competitions

The Hays County Sheriffs Office is holding a series of playdays competitions at the Wimberley Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) arena.

Playdays is an equestrian competition, and the age groups for it consist of four- to six-year-olds for leadline, ages nine to thirteen, ages 14-19 and ages 20 and up. Awards will be given for the top four finishers in each event for each show.

Year-end awards in each age group will receive a saddle for first place, a belt buckle for second and a jacket for third. The top three finishers for leadline, and ages eight and under, will receive belt buckles as well.

The list of playday competitions:

April 11 – Day show.
May 9 – Day show.
June 13 – Night show.
July 11 – Night show.
August 8 – Night show.
Sept. 12 – Day show.

Day shows books open at 8 a.m., with competition starting an 9 a.m. Speed events will begin no earlier than 1 p.m. Night show books open at 3 p.m., with competition starting at 4 p.m., with speed events starting at 7 p.m.

Contestants need to contact the sheriffs office before embarking to ensure the competition has not been rained out or canceled. In the event of a rain out the event will be rescheduled.
