PEC incumbents say they won’t run again

STAFF REPORT

Two Pedernales Electric Cooperative board members, Vi Cloud and Val Smith, have announced they will not seek re-election when their current terms expire June 20.

Cloud has been a director since 1994, representing District 1 which includes most of Burnet, Lampasas, Travis and Williamson counties. A director since 1983, Smith represents District 6 covering parts of Blanco, Comal and Hays counties.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working for the membership and with fellow Directors and staff,” Cloud said in a written statement, “but after 15 years on the Board, I think it’s time to relax a bit. I really appreciate the opportunity, and I will continue to support the Cooperative as a member.”

Cloud is a former member of the Marble Falls City Council. She is now a commissioner and vice president of the Texas Housing Foundation, where she has served in various capacities since 1978. Cloud also has served on advisory councils and boards for telephone companies, banks and schools in Burnet County, where she has resided for more than 40 years.

Also at this year’s annual membership meeting in Johnson City, members will have to fill the District 7 director position, which includes most of Hays County and parts of Travis and Caldwell counties. Director Patrick Cox has already announced his intention to seek re-election for that position.
