SUBMITTED REPORT

It is “shrewd to be rude” will be one tip Seniors will hear at the upcoming Senior Fraud Expos sponsored by the Hays County Criminal District Attorney on April 2 and April 3. The expos will feature presentations from the Attorney General’s office, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Postal Inspector and the Better Business Bureau.

“Our goal is to make sure seniors get the information they need to keep from being victimized by a scam artist or an unscrupulous business person,” said Sherri Tibbe, Hays County Criminal District Attorney. “We have selected topics that are timely and relative to our residents especially home repair scams and sweepstakes scams. According to the U.S. Postal Inspector, a large number of residents in Hays County have been victims of sweepstakes scams and it is important we help people understand how these scams work.”

Other topics that will be included are investment scams, identity theft, and Medicare fraud. Admission is free and there will be refreshments and door prizes.

The expos will be held at Hays County Performing Arts Center, April 2 from 9:30 to 11:30; Wimberley Community Center, April 2 from 2 to 4 p.m., and Stone Creek Senior Community, April 3, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
