More than 7,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle riders from across the state will be coming to San Marcos this September for the annual Texas State H.O.G. Rally, which will be held from September 24-26 at the Hays County Civic Center.
“The annual 3-day Texas State H.O.G. Rally is the largest factory-sponsored motorcycle event held in the state, and was voted the Best Club Event in Texas for 2008 by readers of Ride Texas Magazine ®. It gives our members an opportunity to renew friendships and spend a few days doing what we like to do best – ride together on our Harleys,” said Kate Petty, Rally Coordinator for the annual event.
This year’s rally promises to be the biggest ever. With a new, lower cost registration process, rally staff is looking to exceed last year’s registration of 7000 H.O.G. members. During the annual rally, the Harley-Davidson (H.O.G.) riders will take part in a variety of activities, games and tests of riding skills, a bike show, and other on-site activities.
“The best part of the rally is the riding. We have some great rides planned through the Texas Hill Country with some incredible views,” said Kate Petty. “Even those Harley owners who aren’t members will come out for this event – it’s incredibly easy to join H.O.G. on the spot and join us on the rides. We also hold a big parade on the final day of our rally every year so the public can come out to see all the Harleys and share the excitement,” Petty notes. The 3-day- event will wrap up on Saturday night with a concert featuring Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
“The City of San Marcos is delighted to host the Texas State H.O.G. Rally in 2009,” said Mayor Susan Narvaiz. “This event will involve activities in many locations in San Marcos, including downtown, the Civic Center, the Embassy Suites, and with the Commemorative Air Force. This will have significant economic benefit to the citizens of San Marcos.”
There are 60, 000 members of the Harley Owners Group in Texas, and more than 1,100,000 members in 135 countries world-wide. H.O.G. Chapters are sponsored by Harley- Davidson dealers throughout Texas, and make up 42 of the 1,400 chapters world-wide. Most local chapters hold monthly meetings, organize recreational rides and participate in fund-raising activities across the state. Sponsorship opportunities are available!
