STAFF REPORTTexas State pitching blew up in the sixth inning Tuesday night at Bobcat Field, where Texas Christian hit three straight homers in a 9-5 win against the Bobcats.
As it so often happens in baseball, the margin between escape and defeat was paper-thin for the Bobcats, who held a 4-3 lead entering the sixth inning. That’s when TCU’s Matt Curry, Jason Coats and Taylor Featherston – all with two strikes on them – all homered with no outs.
The first two homers came off Texas State starter Michael Russo, while the third came against reliever Tim Heath, who proceeded to give up two singles and walk before leaving the game without getting anyone out. Three more runs scored before the inning ended, giving TCU a 9-4 lead.
TCU took a 2-0 lead against Russo in the first inning, but the Bobcats tied it in their half of the inning when Keith Prestridge hit a two-run homer.
Freshman Tyler Sibley homered for Texas State in the third inning, tying the game, 3-3. The Bobcats took their only lead of the game in the fifth, when Bret Atwood tripled to knock in Sibley with two outs, giving Texas State a 4-3 advantage.
TCU out-hit Texas State, 14-9. Russo took the loss for the Bobcats, falling to 0-2.
The Bobcats will play three this weekend in the Southland Conference against Sam Houston State. The series will begin Friday at Bobcat Field, with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.Email | Print
