Dr. Gene Bourgeous, Associate Provost at Texas State, was presented with the Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator for 2009 award by the Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN) during a conference that took place Feb. 18-20.
Bourgeous has earned high marks from his colleagues.
Said Ron Brown, dean of Texas State’s University College, “Since becoming associate provost four years ago, (Bourgeous) naturally assumed the responsibility for supporting and coordinating the efforts to provide more staff for undergraduate advising at Texas State. He has spent his entire administrative career concerned with improving advising and recognizing it as a central feature of the institutional support for student success.”
In 2007 and 2008, Bourgeous worked to see that all advising centers at Texas State received more staff advisors. Because of his efforts, 25 additional advisors were hired. Bourgeous also has worked to coordinate advising efforts and manage operating budgets.
TEXAAN is the state-recognized organization for academic advising. More than 300 academic advisors from more than 40 colleges and universities throughout Texas attended the conference where Bourgeous was honored.Email | Print
