Former mayor among San Marcos school board candidates

Four candidates, including former Mayor David Chiu, will compete for two at-large seats in the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District election on May 9. Filing closed on Monday.

  • Judy Allen (incumbent)
  • David Chiu
  • Chris North
  • Vincent Delgado

Last year, the elections drew scant public and even smaller turnout. In the District 1 race, Joe Castillo earned 31 votes to challengers David Castillo’s 173 votes and Lee “Barry’ Davis’ 21 votes. In the District 2 race, Margie Villapando won 64 votes to challenger Laura Duhon’s 40 votes. All told, 332 of 12,907 eligible school district voters cast ballots.
