Texas State’s softball team made an easy sweep of it in Corpus Christi over the weekend, winning three games by nearly identical scores.
The Bobcats beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by scores of 8-1 and 9-3 Saturday, then topped off their sweep with an 8-2 in Sunday. In all three games, the Bobcats pounced to early leads and stayed comfortably on top.
The series began with the Bobcats scoring four runs in the third inning of Saturday’s opener for a 6-0 lead. Leah Boatright went three-for-three in the game, while Alex Newton scored two runs without benefit of a hit. Chandler Hall picked up the win, improving her record to 8-4, allowing no earned runs in five innings.
In Saturday’s second game, the Bobcats scored three times in the second inning for a 3-0 lead that Corpus couldn’t challenge. Taylor Hall drove in three runs for the Bobcats, while Katie Garnett went the seven-inning distance, allowing only two earned runs. The win upped Garnett to 6-4.
The Bobcats scored five times in the second inning of Sunday’s game, establishing an insurmountable 5-0 lead. Texas State hitters walked nine times in the game, so the Bobcats scored eight runs while only being credited for three RBI. Chandler pitched the first four innings for the win, improving to 9-4.
The Bobcats are 7-2 in the league and 15-9 overall. Corpus is 0-9 and 8-17.
Texas State returns home for three games this weekend against Southeastern Louisiana.
