Texas State’s baseball team turned its hit parade into full stride during the weekend at Bobcat Field, crushing over-matched Big Ten opponent Purdue three times by a combined score of 40-14.
Freshman center fielder Tyler Sibley batted .818 in the series, nine for 11, including his first career home run. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit four homers with 12 RBI in the series.
Texas State improved to 9-3, while Purdue fell to 2-7.
Following a 9-2 win against Purdue last Friday, the Bobcats tacked up seven runs in the third inning Saturday, taking an 8-0 lead on their way to a 17-4 victory. In addition to Goldschmidt’s two home runs and four RBI, Laurn Randell hit a homer with three RBI. Adam Witek, Lance Loftin, Jason Martinson and Spenser Dennis each drove in two runs.
Kane Holbrooks pitched six shutout innings, improving his record to 3-0.
Texas State also scored early and often in a 14-10 win Sunday, holding a 9-2 lead through three innings. Goldschmidt drove in five runs with two homers. Jordan Kopycinski drive in three runs.
Texas State starter Brian Borski ran his record to 3-0 despite allowing four runs (two earned) in five innings.
The Bobcats will play Texas Christian at home Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.). The Bobcats lost at TCU, 8-2, on Feb. 25.
