Stadium light mast falls at Hays High

One of the four large light poles at Shelton Stadium snapped at about 6 p.m. today, falling through the roof of Bales Gym, Hays CISD spokesperson Julie Jerome said. She did say what caused the mast to fall.

No one was injured; students were not in the gym at the time.

Shelton Stadium and Bales Gym are closed indefinitely. Emergency response teams will be at the stadium throughout the weekend to take down the three remaining poles.

The Hays High School baseball game scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.

  1. I don’t care how old that pole was. A light pole should be made & installed so that it NEVER comes down unless it’s intentional or damaged by outside agents (not to include wind). Is an investigation in order here?

  2. What could possibly cause a massice football stadium light to just fall over?! And what does this mean for the rest of the high school? Where will the Hays High students park their cars?
