Bobcats lose softball game to Texas

STAFF REPORT

The Texas State softball team lost to the Texas Longhorns Tuesday night at Bobcat Field, 4-2, before 968 home fans.

The Bobcats fell to 12-9 overall, while Texas improved to 15-4. Texas State and Texas have split their two games this year, as they have now for five straight seasons.

The Bobcats opened the scoring when Alex Newton went all the way in from first base after attempting to steal second. The throw to second from the catcher went all the way into center field and Newton went all the way around to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

However, Texas scored three times in the third inning to take control of the game. Desiree Williams hit a solo home run and Tallie Thrasher hit a two-run double to key the inning, putting the Longhorns into a 4-1 advantage.

The Bobcats scored the final run in the sixth inning when Leah Boatright reached on an error and went all the way around as Texas pitcher Torrey Schroeder walked the next three hitters.

Texas State goes on the road this weekend at Texas A&M Corpus Christi for a Saturday double header and a single game on Sunday.
