Hays County Commissioners named the week of March 1 as “Speak Up for Kids CASA 5K” week. CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, holds the annual run to raise funds to recruit and train volunteers who work with abused and neglected children.
“We appreciate the support of the Hays County Commissioners Court in recognizing the good that CASA volunteers bring to our community, helping to give an advocates voice to abused and neglected children and finding safe and loving homes through our court and foster care systems.” said Norma Castilla-Blackwell, executive director of CASA of Central Texas.
This years 5K will be dedicated to the memory of former Hays County Sheriff and longtime CASA supporter, Allen Bridges, who passed away in December 2008.
The run will be held at the Tanger Outlet Center at 7 a.m. on March 1. For more information, or to sign up for the run, visit CASA’s website. CASA is still recruiting volunteers and sponsors for the event.
Said Castilla-Blackwell, “We encourage all Hays County residents and visitors and friends to run, jog or walk in March 1 to raise funds and awareness for CASA.”Email | Print
