Texas State slugger Paul Goldschmidt smashed a two-run homer Wednesday night at Texas Christian University (TCU), but the Bobcats’ scoring stopped right there in an 8-2 loss to the No. 16 Horned Frogs.
TCU matched Texas State’s two runs in the first, then scored two more in the third, chasing Bobcats starter Paul Russo after four innings.
Down 4-2 in the fifth, the Bobcats threatened with the bases loaded and two outs. But Goldschmidt grounded out to end the inning.
Texas State managed only six hits against six TCU hurlers, including two each for Goldschmidt and Bret Atwood.
The Bobcats fell to 3-2 overall. They will begin Southland Conference play this weekend at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before opening their remodeled Bobcat Field before a sell-out crowd against Texas on March 3. The Texas game will begin an eight-game home stand for Texas State.Email | Print
