Hays CISD Trustees finalized a contract Monday night with their new superintendent, Jeremy Lyon.
Lyon will receive $179,000 per year, with a $25,000 cap on his relocation allowance.
The new superintendent replaces Kirk London, who is retiring after more than five years at the helm of Hays CISD. Lyon will start on March 30. London’s last day is Feb. 27. In between, Deputy Superintendent Carter Scherff will serve as superintendent.
“The board is extremely satisfied with the process, with the quality of the candidates and with the conclusion,” Hays CISD Trustees President Chip DuPont said.
Lyon spent seven years at various school systems in Texas before moving on to Oregon in 2000. He served as assistant superintendent, then superintendent, at the Coos Bay school district in Oregon from 2000-2004. For the last five years, he has been superintendent of the Hillsboro School District, about 20 miles from Portland.
The Hillsboro district serves about 20,000 students, making it the fourth largest in Oregon. The Hays CISD has a total enrollment of about 14,000, with that number projected to 19,000 in 2011.
