Hispanic chamber announces HUB seminar, Latino media conference

HUB CERTIFICATION SEMINAR  – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The San Marcos Hispanic Chamber will hold an Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Certification Workshop on Feb. 26. The seminar is free.

An HUB is an entity with its principal place of business in Texas that’s at least 51 percent owned by an Asian Pacific, Black American, Hispanic American, Native American and/or American Woman who resides in Texas and has a proportionate interest in managing the comany’s affairs.

This introductory session will show what is required to be submitted, supporting documentation and how your business qualifies. The seminar has a limit of 12 attendees. Call the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SMHCC) to R.S.V.P.

The seminar will take place from 10 a.m.-noon at the CBC Conference Room, located at 215 W. San Antonio Street.  Additional one-on-one instruction will take place as needed. Call the SMHCC at (512) 353-1103 to reserve a place.

Also, the SMHCC is announcing that the Center for Latino Media & Markets (CSLMM) at the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Texas State University San Marcos will hold the second International conference on the State of Spanish-Language and other Latino-oriented media on Feb. 19-21.

Media professionals, media analysts, policy advocates, scholars and students will gather to discuss the state of Spanish media in the world and the future of Latino-oriented media in the United States. Nearly 60 speakers from throughout the world will gather for the event chaired by Dr. Federico Subervi, Professor and Director for the Center for the Study of Latino Media & Markets.

LULAC Council 4876 will present the Roar at the River Bike Show & Rally on April 25, at the San Marcos City Park. Aside from the Bike Rally, there will be live music, a poker run, washer toss, chili cook-off, food, beer and merchandise vendors.
