Hays County commissioners on Tuesday named Priscilla Hargraves, a registered nurse who has served as interim director since July, as its new director of the Personal Health Department.
“Hays County has the reputation for focusing on our residents’ needs, and we carry that ideal forward with our clinic operations,” Hargraves said. “Our clients are important to us and we strive to provide them with first-class health care, even as our client list is growing,” she said. “I appreciate the vote of confidence from the Court in giving me this responsibility, and the staff and I are ready to take on the ever-growing health-care challenge.”
Hargraves directs a staff of 27 and has a FY2009 budget of approximately $2.2 million, which includes funding from Hays County and the State of Texas.
Hargraves, who holds a degree in psychology from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, joined Hays County in 1999 to work with the Well-Child Immunization Program. She’s also been the quality assurance coordinator and clinical manager.
The clinics, located in San Marcos and Kyle, provide care for the uninsured and underinsured, as well as those participating in Medicaid or other grant programs. Private-pay patients are charged on a sliding fee scale based on income.
More than 11,000 people used the County’s health services in FY2008, about 2,000 more than in the previous year. Services range from immunizations to well-child, prenatal care, women’s health and treatment for acute and chronic care issues. Nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and licensed vocational nurses provide many of the services; patients with more severe needs are referred to other resources in the surrounding area. Staff is also available to help individuals fill out applications for the Indigent Health Care Program.
The clinics are located at 401-A Broadway in San Marcos, phone 512-393-5520, and in Kyle at 150 Lockhart, phone 512-268-1270. The clinic in Kyle is open Mondays 8 a.m.-Noon; 1 -7 p.m. and Tuesdays, 8 a.m.-Noon, 1-5 p.m. In San Marcos the clinic is open Mondays 8 a.m.-Noon; 1 -7 p.m.; Tuesdays-Wednesdays-Thursdays 8 a.m.-Noon; 1 p.m.-5p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m.-Noon; 1-3 p.m.
