Texas State choir to perform at educators convention

STAFF REPORT

The Texas State  Chorale will perform at the annual Texas Music Educators Association Convention on Feb. 13 in San Antonio.

Chorale Director Joey Martin said the group auditioned for the chance to sing at this year’s conference last spring. Martin is a member of the music department faculty at Texas State.

“We’ll be performing diverse works by Monteverdi, Martin, Brahms, Fauré, South African composer Peter van Dijk, and Irish composer Tarik O’Regan,” Martin said.

The current choir is made up of 30 students who must audition for their spots. They’re not required to study music in order to join the choir.

The Texas State Chorale has traveled around the world, singing for all types of audiences. The Chorale will travel to South Africa in 2010 with other guest musicians as part of its educational outreach efforts.
