Wanted: Site for one-stop county shop

STAFF REPORT

Hays County is seeking property in the Kyle or Buda area for a one-stop for county services in precinct 2 ranging from a sheriff’s substation to a recycling center.

Pct. 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton is preparing to issue a request for proposals from property owners for a tract of land to house a new facility to replace a hodgepodge of government properties spread across his precinct.

The building will house offices for precinct 2 elected officials including commissioner, justice of the peace and constable and satellite offices for the sheriff, adult and juvenile probation and the tax assessor-collector. In addition, the project could include quarters for the county’s health clinic in Kyle and a new recycling center for which the county has secured a grant.

A stakeholder committee developed a building prototype of about 9,000 square feet but Barton said the size may need to be increased to accommodate projected growth.
