Buda announces staff changes

BUDA – A number of administrative changes are being made at Buda City Hall, according to City Manager Kenneth Williams.

The highest profile change is the resignation of Jim Duvall as the city’s attorney after 25 years of service. The city will use the law firm Denton, Navarro, Rocha and Bernal on an interim basis until it finds a new city attorney.

“The City of Buda recognizes and appreciates Jim Duvall’s many years of service and dedication in providing legal counsel to the citizens, city council and staff of Buda,” Williams said in a statement.

The city also has promoted Mike Beggs to director of public works after he served in that position in an interim basis for many months. Beggs joined the city in August 2005 as a supervisor in the public works department. He previously worked for 21 years as vice president of field operations for Cullen Excavation. Beggs is a U.S. military veteran who holds numerous water certifications and certifications in emergency management.

Additionally, the city has made two key personnel decisions in the parks and recreation department.

Nikki Cockrell will become the parks and recreation director on Feb. 17. Cockrell was previously an assistant athletic director at St. Edwards University. Before then, she served as parks and recreation director in Smithville.

A native of Pasadena, TX, Cockrell holds a degree in sports management with a minor in business administration from the University of Texas, where she was an All-American softball player both athletically and academically. In 2006, Cockrell was inducted in the Texas Longhorn Hall of Honor.

Jake Eason, who went to work for the city in March 2008 and served for the last five months as interim parks and recreation director, becomes the assistant director of parks and recreation. Eason, a nationally recognized master personal trainer, previously worked as the parks and recreation superintendent and programmer in Burnet.
