Weather wipes out high school sports schedule

Temperatures in the thirties, along with an expectation of freezing rain, all but cancelled Hays County high school athletic contests along Interstate-35 Tuesday night.

Between boys and girls basketball and soccer at San Marcos, Lehman and Hays High Schools, only the Lehman basketball teams played.

The Lehman basketball teams are pretty happy they played, by the way.

The Lehman girls won at home against Lockhart, 43-21. The win strengthened Lehman’s grip on fourth place in District 17-4A, which will send four teams to the playoffs. The Lobos are 4-5 in the league and 12-16 overall.

The Lehman boys ran to a 22-9 lead after one quarter at Lockhart and finished off a 69-45 win.  The Lobos now are 3-4 in District 17-4A, one-half game out of fourth place behind San Marcos (3-3).

The boys and girls soccer games between Lehman and San Marcos were moved from Tuesday night to Wednesday night. The boys soccer game between those schools is set for 7:45 p.m. at Lehman, while the girls soccer game is on at 7:15 p.m. at Lehman.

The Hays boys soccer game at home against Canyon Lake has been moved to Wednesday night, as has the Hays girls soccer game at Canyon Lake.

The Hays boys basketball game at home against Manor is moved to Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Hays girls basketball game at Manor has been moved to Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
