Hays Consolidated Independent School District tonight named an Oregon superintendent with roots in Texas as the replacement for Superintendent Dr. Kirk London, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.
“It is an honor to follow a superintendent of the caliber of Dr. London and we will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition. My wife and I look forward to joining the community and to our return to Central Texas,” Dr. Jeremy Lyon said in a written statement issued by the school district.
Lyon has been superintendent of the Hillsboro School District in Hillsboro, Ore. since 2004. Before that he held principalships and teaching and coaching positions at Leander, La Joya and the Gilmer school districts in Texas.
Dr. Lyon earned his doctorate at University of Texas in Austin, his master’s degree at University of Texas-Pan American and his bachelor’s degree from A&M University.
The Hays school board on Monday night named Lyon the lone finalist for the job for 21 days as required by state law. The school board has a scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16 to finalize Lyon’s contract.
