The city of San Marcos Public Services Department will begin minor reconstruction of a section of Bishop Street on January 20, with daytime street closures between Hopkins and Belvin Street planned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The project, part of the City’s annual street maintenance program, will take two to three weeks to complete.
Traffic on Bishop Street will be detoured to Belvin, Dixon and Mitchell Streets around the construction zone. The block will be open to through traffic after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
Residents are asked to avoid parking on Bishop between Hopkins and Belvin, to watch for heavy equipment and fresh oil and to drive slowly in the construction zone.
The crews will mill the old asphalt, shape the street and repave it with asphalt.
The project is part of minor reconstruction of about eight lane miles of streets this fiscal year. The department maintains more than 290 total lane miles in San Marcos.
